On a cold dark December day in 2015, a tall grey haired man entered a London station, bought a return train ticket to Manchester but never came back.

A day later he was found dead on the moors above Oldham. He carried no wallet, no driving licence and no mobile phone. Nobody had reported him missing and the police had no idea who he was.
In a highly unusual case, the man had died of strychnine poisoning – a deadly rat poison only available to buy under strict licence. How had he got it? Why had he travelled to Oldham? Did he take his own life or had he been murdered?
With exclusive access to the year long investigation by detectives from Greater Manchester Police, Mystery of the Man on the Moor tells the remarkable story of their painstaking work to identify the unknown man and to understand his death.
