True North’s series ‘The Yorkshire Dales and The Lakes’ was a winner at the Royal Television Society’s North East Awards

The series, which has been a huge success on More4, was voted Best Factual Programme by the judges who said: ‘The winning programme dug deep into the communities it portrayed, telling interesting stories that combined to paint a big and satisfying picture — a worthy winner for its story-telling, visual style and sheer enjoyment’.

It originally aired on More4 last summer, attracting an audience of 626K, the channel’s highest launch for a series in three years. A new run of 10 episodes is currently in production and will be shown later this year.

True North Creative Director, Andrew Sheldon, said: ‘It’s a challenging series to make, especially across winter, but the team never shy away from getting stuck in, whatever the weather. The result is a joy to watch and it’s a series we’re very proud of’.

True North’s partnership with Tyneside Cinema on Channel 4’s Random Acts scheme for young film makers was also celebrated, with the RTS making a special Centre Award to the cinema for its work.
