True North to make Teen Mom UK Spin Off
1st November
Teen Mom’s US pregnancy spin-off is heading to the UK after MTV ordered a domestic version of the young female-skewing format.
Leeds-based True North, which is also responsible for Teen Mom UK, will produce 4 x 60-minute series Teen Mom: Young & Pregnant UK.
It will follow the lives of four young women from across the UK, using a combination of video diaries and interviews. Young & Pregnant takes an earlier glimpse at parenthood than its sister-format, documenting the complexities that pregnancy can bring to teen life.
The US spin-off, which is produced by 11th Street Productions, launched earlier this year and was followed by a season of specials.
Teen Mom UK, which has run for four series, is among MTV’s most-popular shows. Its best performing episode of the year drew 450,000 (2.1%) in April. Almost 80% of the audience was female and 71% was under-35.
Teen Mom: Young & Pregnant was commissioned by MTV UK vice president and brand lead Kelly Bradshaw, along with director of programming Anthony Rochford.
Emma Clarke will exec for MTV with True North’s Fiona O’Sullivan.
O’Sullivan said: “We know that there are incredible inspirational young people in the UK facing up to the biggest challenge of their lives, in becoming parents when they themselves have only just become adults. We are proud to be able to help them share their stories with MTV and the nation.”
