The Valleys

True North has won its first commission for MTV- a six part non-scripted reality series set in the Welsh capital Cardiff and The Valleys.

‘The Valleys’ will take youngsters from villages like Tonyrefail and Tonypandy and send them to the big city of Cardiff in search of their dreams.

It will follow a group of youngsters as they balance their new lives and jobs, as well as track them as they return to their home towns.

The series is Executive Producer, Fiona O’Sullivan’s biggest commission for True North since joining the company last year from Lime Pictures where she was co-exec on TOWIE and developed Geordie Shore.

The show will be shot in South Wales and cut in True North’s new 14 edit Post Production department in Leeds. Manus Wynne will be Series Producer.

O’Sullivan said: ‘The Valleys is very exciting – I’m in no doubt looking at the casting for the series that the kids from the Welsh Valleys are huge reality stars in the making. It’s a fantastic little known world and will make a brilliant setting for a constructed reality show.”

True North Creative Director Jess Fowle said: ‘We’re thrilled to be working with MTV on a series that we’re sure will push the non-scripted reality format in a whole new direction. Commissions like this are at the heart of our plans to diversify and grow True North’s output’.

The Valleys, which will air later this year, has been ordered by MTV UK Director of Television Kerry Taylor and Senior Editorial Director of Commissioning and Production Steve Regan with Vice President of programming Vanessa Brookman.
