True North “fifth-biggest factual supplier” in UK
22nd March
True North is now the fifth-biggest independent supplier of factual programmes to British broadcasters, according to a new industry survey.
Broadcast’s annual survey of independent producers for 2010 shows True North in its strongest-ever position, just below leading indies such as Optomen and Tiger Aspect – and above respected companies such as Wall To Wall and Raw TV. In the past year, True North produced 70 hours of new programmes and 170 hours of repeats, mainly due to successful series like Animal 24:7, To Build Or Not To Build, both produced for BBC One, and Michaela’s Animal Road Trip, made for Five.
The survey reveals that True North was the eighth-biggest supplier of programmes to Five in 2009 – thanks to series like Animal Rescue Squad – and it also confirms True North’s position as one of the UK’s most successful indies based outside of London. It now ranks as fifteenth in the list, behind companies like Lime, Two Four, Aardman and Maverick.
True North titles which helped to cement its strong showing in the survey include Cutting Edge: Addicted To Surrogacy and Dispatches: Cops On The Cheap (Channel 4), Panorama: Freed To Offend Again (BBC One), Extraordinary People: The Man Who Shared His Liver (Five) and Killer in the Family (Crime & Investigation).
