TLC UK commissions True North for Tina Malone doc

TLC UK has commissioned a 1×60 medical documentary from True North shadowing actress Tina Malone as she undergoes a number of cosmetic surgical procedures following her dramatic weight-loss and a recent pregnancy.

TINA MALONE: MY NEW BODY (working title) will take viewers on Tina’s medical and emotional journey as she undergoes numerous operations to remove 12lbs of excess skin. Unhappy with her 20 stone figure, Tina had a gastric band fitted in 2010, which helped her reach her size eight goal. She now wants reconstructive surgery to remove the excess skin brought on by her weight-loss and subsequent pregnancy.

Beginning in January 2015, Tina will undergo surgery to her eyes, face, neck, and body. The film will look at Tina, Paul and her mother Olwyn’s response to the unprecedented number of procedures – whilst addressing questions about Tina’s motivations and responsibilities as a new mother.

Sarah Thornton, VP of Production and Development at TLC UK, said: “As far as I’m concerned, Tina, Paul and baby Flame Malone are part of the TLC Family. I have no doubt that as ever she and her family and friends will make us all laugh, cry and think about our own lives in a whole new light. I’m also thrilled to be working with Fiona O’Sullivan and the True North team, they are brilliant story tellers and I’m certain the film will deliver on all fronts.”

Fiona O’Sullivan, the Executive Producer for True North Productions, said: “We are really excited to be joining Tina on this extreme body makeover. Tina is giving us access all areas and I’m confident viewers will get to know her like they never have before. Tina’s looking for closure on over 20 years of being the “fat funny one” and hopes one day soon to look in the mirror and like what she sees because as she says herself “I don’t know what that feels like.’”
