Freemantle to shop True North format The Naked Truth

FremantleMedia is taking The Naked Truth (working title) global after picking up the world rights to the 10-part reality series from UK indie True North.

The deal, which excludes the U.S., was announced Aug. 24 during a panel session at the Edinburgh TV Festival by Vasha Wallace, FremantleMedia’s EVP of global acquisitions and development.

It covers international format opportunities, as well as the 10 x 45-minute finished version of the series. It’s set to launch on Channel 4 later this year.

Described in a statement by Wallace as “the most honest conversation you’ll ever have,” the series pits current couples, wannabe pairs, exes, friends and family members up against polygraph examiner Dan Ribacoff in a lie-detector test. The participants are put in the hot seat as they tackle uncomfortable subjects and relationship problems, with Ribacoff ultimately determining whether they are telling the truth.

The deal comes as True North puts increasing emphasis on format creation, according to Marc Allen, managing director. “To have such an exciting new show with a team and company so prolific in international format exploitation is a great combination,” he said.

The series is executive produced by Fiona O’Sullivan with Stuart Froude serving as series director.
