BBC2
This moving film brings together the members of the 218 Bomber squadron 60 years on from the end of the war and tells the story of their dangerous and heroic assignments during the war. The programme recounts the forgotten mission of the bombers flying from Lincolnshire and Humberside to occupied western Holland carrying an unlikely load. Instead of dropping bombs for destruction they dropped thousands of tons of food to save the lives of the millions of starving men, women and children cut off from the food supply by the German forces. We follow the men who took part in the mission embark on a deeply moving and emotional journey to meet the people who’s live they saved 60 years ago.
