The Way We Were on Holiday

ITV Yorkshire, Anglia & Granada

Producer / Director: Andrew Knight

Exec Producer: Andrew Sheldon

Building on the success of True North’s long-running series The Way We Were, The Way We Were on Holiday is a pan-regional co-production: Series one is for ITV Yorkshire and Anglia and series two is for Yorkshire and Granada.

As with its highly popular sister series, On Holiday follows the lives of families through the unusual archive held in the vaults of the regions’ film archives. It charts how Yorkshire and the North West have changed over the decades, and relives the summer holidays of its inhabitants.

Using rich and often rare archive, the series discovers how the seaside resorts of the north of England were once the summer hub of the country. Each edition of the series features intimate and revealing stories, from touching memories of family holidays on the Norfolk Broads in the 1950s, to the Blackpool holiday that the owners of Bradford’s Salts Mill treated all their staff to.

The series relives the events long-forgotten by many, but fondly remembered by the people who were there. In showing them the archive and unravelling their clear memories of the event, the series takes a fond and nostalgic view of local resorts in their heyday.
