True North has been commissioned to tell the story of killer nurse Colin Norris, the so-called ‘Angel of Death’ who was imprisoned in March for the murders of four elderly patients in his care.
The film was ordered by ITV Controller of Current Affairs and Documentaries Jeff Anderson and will form part of the new series of Real Crime, which returns for a 15-part run from next month.
The Scottish-born nurse who murdered four elderly patients in Leeds hospitals in 2002, by injecting them with lethal amounts of insulin.
Suspicions were raised when Norris predicted the time of death of one elderly patient, and this led police to investigate more than 70 other deaths at Leeds hospitals. When questioned about three deaths whilst he was on duty, Norris claimed to have been ‘unlucky.’
After a 19-week trial and four days of jury deliberation, Norris was sentenced to 30 years in prison for four murders and the attempted murder of a fifth elderly woman.
The film will be Executive Produced by Andrew Sheldon.
