My Fake Baby on BBC America

10th October 2008

True North’s headline-grabbing documentary My Fake Baby premiered on BBC America on 1st October, and was featured as one of the New York Times’ critic’s choices for the US Autumn TV season.

My Fake Baby explores the lives of women who spend hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of pounds on life-like baby dolls.  Known as “reborns” some of the dolls have beating hearts, others have tiny veins and even milk spots.  Loved like real babies, they’re taken for walks, cuddled and even have their nappies changed.

The film, which follows three women who all have very different reasons for entering the doll world, was a big hit in the UK when it was broadcast on Channel 4 in January 2008, attracting 3.8 million viewers. Since then, it has been broadcast in a number of countries worldwide including Australia, New Zealand, France, Israel, Norway, Ireland, Sweden, Hungary, Finland, Hungary, Poland and the Netherlands.
