True North gained a high-profile position in Broadcast’s annual Indie Survey published today.
The Survey lists Britain’s independent production companies by turnover, profit and output, and is considered the most authoritative report on the state of the industry. It also conducts an annual Peer Poll, in which independent producers name their favourite production companies and broadcasters.
True North was placed eighth overall in the Survey’s list of factual production companies. Of the 150 companies listed, 49 including True North specialise purely in factual programming – the most highly contested genre.
Not only is the company the eighth largest factual indie in the UK, by hours of programming, but it was also named the 23rd largest production company outside London in all genres.
In 2007, True North was responsible for 62 hours of programming, and 35 hours of repeats, with the company recording a 40% increase in turnover between 2006 and 2007.
True North was also a popular choice among companies tipped for further success over the next twelve months, being dubbed ‘one to watch’ in the industry-wide peer poll.
