True North was founded by Jess Fowle, Andrew Sheldon and Glyn Middleton in 2002. Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength.
Jess Fowle: Creative Director
Jess started in television as an ITV trainee and spent the first ten years of her working life at a number of ITV companies including TV-am, Central and Yorkshire TV. At Yorkshire Television Jess was behind some of the highest-ever factual ratings with ITV's Nannies from Hell.
At True North, Jess has been responsible for delivering many of the company's most talked about programmes, including documentaries My Mums Used to be Men, and The Twins Who Share a Body . Jess was Executive Producer on My Fake Baby, Animal Rescue Squad, and How to Survive the Property Crisis, as well as one series of Animal 24:7
Glyn Middleton: Chief Executive
After starting his career on the prestigious First Tuesday documentary series, Glyn produced and directed numerous high-profile films for ITV, including The Unknown Victims of the Yorkshire Ripper, I’ll Be Watching You and Someone To Watch Over Me and was Deputy Editor of the current affairs series, 3D.
Glyn is Executive Producer for True North's forthcoming Crime & Investigation Network series Killer in the Family,as well as Churchill’s German Army, Killer Couples, Youth Hostelling – The First 100 Years, and Ghosts of Christmas Past.
Andrew Sheldon: Creative Director
Andrew Sheldon is an award winning journalist with a 20 year career in television. He has worked extensively as a Producer, Series Producer, and Executive Producer on films like One Life: Getting Away With Murder, Real Story: Death of a Policeman and Christine Keeler - Sex Bomb.
Andrew has Executive Produced four series of Animal 24:7 as well as Sunday Life, and One Man and His Canoe: The John Darwin Story, amongst others.
Carol McKenzie: Head of Production and Facilities
Carol joined True North in April 2009 after 25 years in YTV, Granada and ITV, where she worked across a wide variety of drama, entertainment, children’s and sport, but spent the last decade as Head of Production for Factual programmes in the North. Programmes supervised include Billy Connolly’s Journey to the Edge of the World, Tonight with Trevor McDonald, numerous 100 Greatest for C4, Challenge Anneka and Naked Science.
Julie Heselgrave: Head of Finance
Julie Heselgrave’s wealth of production expertise has been key to True North’s ongoing development and strong reputation. Julie joined the company in 2002, and as the company has grown, so has her role - Julie now has responsibility for finance across True North in both production and corporate.
Anna Yallop: Head of Business Affairs
Anna Yallop trained as a lawyer before going on to roles as diverse as Monty Python’s legal advisor, MD of an agency for musical composers and founder of The Independent’s dedicated children’s edition.
Currently she splits her time between True North and the House of Commons where she is Assistant to Derek Wyatt, MP, chair of the All Party Internet Group and former member of the Select Committee on Culture, Media and Sport.
Andrew Lurcuck: Head of Post Production
Andrew Lurcuck is True North’s Post Production Manager where he oversees a Unity system servicing eight edit suites.
Andrew joined True North in 2005 after nine years at YTV. Andrew is currently senior editor on Animal 24:7 and his credits include One Life: Getting Away with Murder, The Ripper Hoaxer, MacIntyre’s Big Sting and My Mums Used to Be Men.
True North is proud to be based in the heart of Yorkshire and to be working with key talent from all over the north of England – like camera operator/film editor Mark Stokes and experienced Series Producers, such as Mark McMullen, Sarah Hey, Julie Beanland and Adam Purver.
